I’ve got a cosy little Halloween cartoon for you today, featuring Frog and Frog from Frog’s Bucket List. I quite like doing these little frog cartoons. Last year I made two: ‘The Easter Surprise’ and ‘The Lunchbox Surprise’. This Halloween-themed comic follows in a similar style. It’s been nice to relax and draw some frogs on these cold, Autumn evenings. Hope you enjoy!

But First: A Frog’s Bucket List Update

I feel like the publication of my next Frog’s Bucket List book (‘Summer Holiday’) is a bit like ‘Waiting for Godot’. For one reason and another, 2026 has been a particularly ‘full’ year. One that has almost passed in the blink of an eye.

Looking back to my very first art blog post (which I posted three years ago now – wow!), I express my desire to “rediscover my passion and educate myself in all things ‘art’”. And I certainly feel like I have rediscovered my passion and learned a lot. The journey so far has been rewarding. And unexpected! I would never have predicted that I’d end up drawing and painting so many frogs!

In the spirit of blog post #1, I’m having a mini reset. I would like my art to happen when it happens – because it’s been fun, rather than because of a self-imposed deadline. Art should be my escape, not a chore. With that in mind, I fully intend to publish ‘Summer Holiday’. I just can’t say when. But it is mouth-wateringly cute, with some really charming frog illustrations that I’m looking forward to sharing with you, whenever that time is.

That’s how I ended up creating this Halloween cartoon instead – because in the moment, that’s what felt joyful.

A Halloween Cartoon

Like my previous frog cartoons, I’ve kept this Halloween cartoon black and white – comic strip style. But I’m still using my normal Daler Rowney watercolour paper and Uni Pin Fineliner pens so that they have the same aesthetic as my Frog’s Bucket List watercolours.

It’s a cosy little Autumnal story. I present to you “The Halloween Surprise”…

It was a cold, misty, Autumn evening and Frog and Frog were talking a walk in the countryside. A little way down the track, Frog spotted something flickering in the corner of her eye.

It was a little lantern hanging from a tree branch, and an arrow pointing down the lane. How curious!

Frog and Frog kept walking, and a short while later, Frog also spotted something mysterious.

It was a pumpkin with a face, and another arrow.

And what’s that? Even more strange objects and arrows!

There was a jar of leaves and fairy lights, a string of spooky shapes, and an ornament of a cat in a witches hat.

Frog and Frog looked around in wonder and amazement. Then they looked at each other – how exciting!

They decided to follow the arrows, which led them down a woodland trail of spooky sights.

The mysterious items were scattered everywhere. Down low on the ground…

… and up high in the sky!

Until eventually, Frog and Frog found themselves in a woodland clearing filled with glowing pumpkins lanterns. Trees adorned with bunting and fairy lights. (And a small hedgehog, making a HedgeHog Home out of leaves). And in the middle of the clearing, a table with two mugs of hot chocolate and a plate of gingerbread biscuits.

Frog and Frog looked at each other, astonished. What a surprise!

Then Frog realised that it was Halloween – the woodland animals must have prepared a special Halloween treat for Frog and Frog.

They spent the rest of the evening drinking hot chocolate, sharing the gingerbread biscuits, and feeling very lucky indeed.

The End.
